Muscle and bone sprains can't knead

It is more common for people to accidentally sprain their muscles and bones during their daily work, sports, travel, housework and other activities. Especially among people engaged in sports, outdoor work, and manual labor, the incidence of sprains is higher, among which there are more men than women, more adults than children, and the elderly are especially prone to it.

Sprains mainly occur in situations such as running, jumping, fighting, violence, falling, and walking on uneven roads, and have sudden characteristics. The parts that are prone to sprains are mainly cervical spine, lumbar spine, shoulder joints, elbow joints, hand joints, ankle joints and other parts of the body that are frequently moved; the injuries caused by sprains are mainly ligament avulsion, muscle strain, joint dislocation, fracture, etc.

Main manifestations of sprain

The clinical manifestations of sprains are mainly obvious pain at the injured site, limited mobility, local bleeding and tissue edema, and deformity at the injured site. Some mild sprains can heal on their own, so some injured people tend to be paralyzed and don't care much about the injury, and often do some simple treatment on the injured part by themselves. However, if these simple treatments are not done properly, the best time for treatment will be delayed, and minor injuries will become serious illnesses, resulting in lifelong regrets.

The Four Most Common Ways to Mishandle a Sprain

1. Knead

Some people immediately knead the injured part after a sprain, thinking that kneading can relieve the pain and promote recovery. Little do they know that for those who have not mastered the trauma reduction technique, random rubbing of the sprained area is harmful and unhelpful, which can cause increased local bleeding, aggravated swelling of the injured connective tissue, and it may even be difficult to reduce swelling in the future.

2. Apply heat immediately

Doing so dilates the capillaries in the injured area and worsens the bleeding.

3. Ask someone for a massage

Massage by people without medical knowledge may cause dislocation of sprained joints. There was a young man who accidentally twisted his waist while working. At that time, it was only pain, which did not have a major impact on his actions. He went to a local bathing center by himself to ask the waiter to massage him, stepped on his back, caused the dislocation of the spine joints, and collapsed on the massage table on the spot.

4. Forced activity

Forcibly exercising when the injury is unknown may aggravate the injury and cause more serious consequences. The injury should be checked first, and then appropriate rehabilitation exercises can be done depending on the situation.

**In addition, it is also necessary to prevent the pain of certain lesions in the body from being mistaken for sprains. A middle-aged man surnamed Zhang in Chengdu suddenly felt pain in his lower back when he was standing up from squatting. He thought it was because he twisted his waist too much when he stood up too much, so he applied plaster for treatment. After a few days, I didn't see any improvement, so I went to the massage and health parlor to ask someone to massage my waist. More than three months have passed, but it has not worked. Later, when I went to the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for an examination, I found a fist-sized cyst on my lumbar spine, which was removed by surgery and gradually recovered. There is also a patient who has always felt pain in his fingers recently, thinking that he sprained his fingers while working, so he often rubs his fingers when he is fine. As a result, the fingers became more and more painful and swollen. I went to the hospital for an examination, only to find that it was tuberculosis of the finger bones, and it was cured after a period of treatment.

Correct treatment of sprains

Pathologically speaking, a sprain means that the ligament is partially or completely torn and the stump is displaced. Therefore, correct handling should include the following points.

  1. Restore the position of the stumped ligament so that the stumps are in contact with each other to facilitate healing.

  2. Maintain continuous and constant contact of the broken ligament within a certain period of time, so that the broken ligament can heal in the correct position.

⒊Enhance local circulation, promote early absorption of hematoma and edema, and prevent tissue adhesion.

  1. Manipulative reduction prevents bone and muscle atrophy and joint ankylosis. It requires not only certain fixation, but also appropriate exercise, combining movement and stillness. But it must be done by a doctor or under the guidance of a doctor. Generally speaking, for new sprains, manual therapy has a better effect. If manual therapy cannot be reduced, surgical reduction can be performed.

Regardless of manual reduction or surgical reduction, it should be performed within three weeks of the sprain, otherwise the best time for treatment will be lost. The main pre-hospital treatment methods after an individual sprain occurs are:

(1) External application or oral administration of some drugs for the treatment of bruises;

⑵ Apply cold compresses to the injured area;

⑶ Do not do repetitive movements that cause sprains.

If the injury is still painful and swelling within 48 hours, you must go to a regular hospital for examination and ask a doctor for treatment.
