When Liang Meng stands in front of everyone, you may not imagine that this is a doctor who has been fighting cancer for 27 years.

Liang Meng, born in 1965, is currently the director and chief physician of the Nephrology Department of the 174th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army. He has made numerous achievements in teaching and research—won 1 second prize for military scientific and technological progress or medical achievements, 9 third prizes, 2 fourth prizes, and a national invention 1 patent.

It has been commended 28 times by the former Fourth Headquarters of the People's Liberation Army, the former Nanjing Military Region, the former Political Department of the Military Region, the former Joint Logistics Department, the China Federation of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Fujian Province and Xiamen City, and won the third-class merit 5 times...

However, fate was unfair. Liang Meng was diagnosed with colon cancer in 1995. With her firm belief, Liang Meng continued to work and contribute herself even though she was suffering from cancer. She was known as "Contemporary Paul". Read about his story.

1. "Contemporary Paul": Suffering from cancer for 27 years, still struggling at the front line of medicine

1. Unfortunately suffering from cancer at the age of 30

In 1995, Liang Meng suddenly fainted and fell unconscious. After examination, it was found that he had a colon cancer the size of an egg growing in his abdominal cavity, with erosion and perforation reaching 2cm. In the end, Liang Meng was diagnosed with advanced sigmoid colon cancer perforation and peritonitis .

"The army has trained me for so many years, and I haven't paid back. I can't fall down!" After falling ill, Liang Meng did not just fall down, but continued to fight on the front line of work with faith.

In 1996, he applied for the establishment of the first nephrology department in southwestern Fujian. However, at a critical moment, his condition relapsed again, and the cancer cells metastasized to the lungs, requiring another operation.

Faced with this operation whose outcome is unknown, Liang Meng wrote a suicide note—in case she is really gone, she hopes that the hospital can continue to support the department team and serve more patients.

2. He has practiced medicine with illness for decades: he goes to work during the day and gives infusions at night

As a doctor and as a patient, Liang Meng understands the patient's pain very well. In 1995, just after the operation, he hung a sling to the patient for diagnosis and treatment, and the patient's condition improved significantly. Later, when he learned that Liang Meng was ill, the patient ran out of his ward several times to pray for him.

After several rounds of chemotherapy, Liang Meng lost all her hair and lost more than ten kilograms in weight. Although the treatment process was very difficult, he still insisted on working.

For convenience, he even asked his father to take the materials to the ward, and he read them while his father wrote them for him. Before the surgery had the stitches removed, he took an indwelling abdominal drainage tube to attend a nephrology meeting in other places . Even when the dressing was changed, he was still consulting on the phone to analyze the patient's condition.

Over the past 20 years, Liang Meng has performed more than 10 large and small operations. In order not to delay work and recover as soon as possible, in recent years, every time he goes out for a meeting, he has to carry more than 10 kinds of medicinal nutrient solutions with him , and he has to take the trouble to explain to the staff when he goes through the security check at the airport.

Infusion at night, and continue to work the next day, Liang Meng has become accustomed to it. Although it was difficult, Liang Meng never complained, nor did she miss work once.

3. Become a friend of patients

Since practicing medicine, Liang Meng has been recognized by countless patients and has also made a large number of patient friends. All the patients he has treated have maintained close contact with him after they are discharged from the hospital.

Contacting more patients from all over the country, Liang Meng even learned different dialects, and communicated with patients without any obstacles, greatly shortening the distance with patients .

He also often asks his mother to distribute the nutritious soup he cooked to his fellow patients, personally assists the patients to get their medicines, handles the hospitalization procedures for the patients, and advances the medical expenses for the patients with poor economic conditions...

Small actions warmed the heart of the patient and won the respect of everyone.

2. The key to the success of anti-cancer lies in these two points

Liang Meng has been practicing medicine for decades after suffering from cancer. The key to his success in fighting cancer is inseparable from the following two points:

1. Positive and optimistic attitude towards life

Life is impermanent. Facing sudden changes, some people are sympathetic and desperate to live; some people work hard and ignite their enthusiasm for work and life.

Obviously, Liang Meng is the latter. Liang Meng has always regarded work as his mission. He likes work more than anything else, and saving lives and healing the wounded is his only reason and motivation for living .

Therefore, after the illness, he did not remain depressed, but faced it calmly, maintained a positive and optimistic attitude towards life, was grateful, strengthened his life goals, loved life, loved life, and lived every precious day seriously .

2. Have good living habits

Not only is her positive and optimistic attitude towards life infecting those around her, but Liang Meng's good living habits have also inspired many people. Outside of work, he enjoys photography, calligraphy, and playing the violin.

He runs in the morning almost every morning, breathes the fresh air, feels good, and can exercise his body to speed up his recovery.

3. In the treatment of cancer, it is more important to treat the heart

There is a saying in the medical field that one-third of the cancer patients who die are scared to death . In fact, cancer is not terrible. What is terrible is that we fall down before we start fighting.

In fact, the occurrence of cancer is not the result of a single factor, but is related to many factors, such as environment, lifestyle, and people's mentality.

Liu Yunpeng, director of the Oncology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University, said: "Cancer is most afraid of you to maintain a good mood." Negative emotions such as depression, frustration, helplessness, and hopelessness are closely related to cancer. Experts and academicians once said that half of health is mental health, and half of disease is mental illness.

Studies have found that when a person is angry, the stress hormone produced in the body is enough to kill mice. Long-term depression, anxiety, tension, and anger will lead to high levels of stress hormones, lower immunity , and give cancer an opportunity.

Some people say, I want to be happy too, but I just can’t be happy! Indeed, negative emotions such as anxiety and fear cannot be eliminated if you want to eliminate them, so is there any way to alleviate them?

First of all, patients need to face their fears calmly and bravely. Don't feel ashamed, and don't think that being afraid is a sign of weakness. Take a deep breath when something is wrong, and seek psychological counseling or treatment when necessary.

At the same time, family members should understand the patient to the greatest extent , do not force them to discuss some topics they do not want to face, listen to their ideas carefully and patiently, give them more words of encouragement, stabilize the patient's emotions, and make the patient feel more at ease receive treatment.

In clinical nursing measures, psychological intervention has become an indispensable item .

If necessary, psychological stress can be reduced through cognitive behavioral therapy, music therapy, distraction, mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy, emotional counseling, and targeted psychological counseling. Both patients and family members.

Cancer is terrible. Some people die within three months from diagnosis to death. Cancer is not terrible. Some people are still alive after being diagnosed.

Excluding some objective factors, we can still do a lot in the face of cancer. For example, maintaining a good mood, adjusting living habits and so on. Only by facing it calmly and treating it scientifically can the chances of defeating cancer be greater.
