Why is the high incidence of cancer in China caused by eating meat for a long time? Advice: 5 kinds of meat do eat less
Food has always had an irresistible charm for foodies, and for those who don't like meat, there is no shortage of meat on the table. There have been rumors on the Internet that the high incidence of cancer in China is related to the long-term eating of meat by the people. Is this really true?
1. Research finds: more than 5 times a week, high cancer risk
In February 2022, the Oxford University research team found that 54,961 subjects were newly diagnosed with cancer after 11.4 years of follow-up of 472,377 subjects between the ages of 40 and 70.
After controlling for other factors, the researchers found that people who ate meat more than five times a week (of any type of meat) were more likely to eat meat than those who ate any meat, no more than five times a week, and only fish. Those who ate no other meat and those who ate no meat had a 2%, 10%, and 14% higher risk of cancer, respectively.
Does that mean that there is a high incidence of cancer, and eating meat is the culprit?
2. Is eating meat the culprit for the high incidence of cancer?
Indeed, studies have found that eating meat regularly increases the risk of developing certain cancers. Evidence suggests that excessive intake of red meats such as pork, beef, lamb, sausage, ham, roast, and processed meats increases the risk of bowel cancer. Furthermore, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified processed meat as a Category 1 carcinogen and red meat as a Category 2A carcinogen.
The carcinogenic mechanism of red meat and processed meat may be due to the high heme iron content in red meat, which is more likely to increase the production of free radicals and induce cancer. Plus, red meat promotes inflammation and increases cancer risk. During the cooking process of processed meat, substances such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and nitrosamines may be produced, thereby increasing the risk of cancer.
Red meat and processed meat will increase the risk of cancer, but it does not mean that meat cannot be eaten . After all, meat is rich in nutrients such as vitamin B12, high-quality protein, iron, and zinc, so it is still necessary to eat. However, it is recommended to eat lean meat, and pay attention to control the intake.
3. However, it is not recommended to eat these 5 kinds of meat
Meat contains high-quality protein, so it is one of the essential foods in the diet, but it should be noted that the following types of meat are not recommended.
1. Animal neck
There are more lymphoid tissues in the neck of animals, and there may be germs in them, so it is best to eat less.
2, animal three glands
Adrenal glands, thyroid glands, diseased lymph glands, etc. in animals are not recommended to be eaten. The thyroid glands and adrenal glands contain a lot of hormones. Eating too much will affect the endocrine system and cause abnormal physical symptoms. There are bacteria and viruses in the lymph glands, and it is difficult to eliminate them when cooking, so it is not recommended to eat them.
3. Fish belly black membrane
The black membrane in the belly of fish is the protective layer of fish, but this layer of membrane is mainly composed of fat, and its nutritional value is not high.
4. Chicken and duck ass
Chicken and duck buttocks are also not recommended to be eaten. For example, chicken buttocks contain caudal glands and upper cavity sacs, which contain many pathogens and metabolic wastes, so it is not recommended to eat them.
5. Wild animal meat, cat and dog meat
Wild animal meat is generally of unknown origin and may contain various germs, and it is not recommended to eat it.
Eating too much meat may indeed increase the risk of cancer, but cancer is the result of a combination of factors, and it is necessary to eat meat. It is recommended not to eat some meat such as animal necks, animal glands, chicken and duck buttocks, wild animal meat, etc., which are not safe.
