Dishwashing liquid is harmful, will it cause cancer? How many times is it safe to wash with detergent residue? here comes the answer
Are you still using dish soap at home?
"Washing dishes with baking soda instead of dish soap is safer"
"Washing dishes with rice washing water or flour is healthier."
"Dishwashing liquid has residues and has a risk of cancer. After all, it is something that comes into contact with the mouth, so it is better not to use it."
Is dishwashing liquid a "harmful essence"? Will it be a health hazard?
1. Does detergent cause cancer?
Every time she washes the dishes, Xiao Jiu always has to use dish soap to get rid of the greasy dirt. However, there have been many rumors about dishwashing liquid, and some even say that dishwashing liquid will leave chemical substances on the tableware, which can cause cancer...
Daily, the detergent we use mainly includes surfactants (such as sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, sodium fatty alcohol ether sulfate, etc.), flavors and pigments and other ingredients . The meaning of surfactants, which sounds like "chemicals", seems to be worrying.
Surfactant is a general term for a large class of chemical substances, which can "fuse" incompatible water and oil, so that the oil can be washed away by water at once, which is also the principle of detergent decontamination.
In fact, there are many kinds of surfactants, which are used to make dishwashing liquid, all of which have undergone strict safety verification.
As for surfactants, eating too much can cause poisoning, so the dose cannot be exceeded. Studies have shown that the dosage of surfactants in detergents that causes the death of half of the experimental animals is mostly above 1 g/kg, and a few are above 5 g/kg.
According to China's "National Safety Standards for Detergents", surfactants are non-toxic or low-toxic substances. For a 60 kg adult, it may take a whole bottle of dishwashing liquid to have a poisoning reaction.
Regarding the residual problem of active agents, it is also confirmed in "Safety and Mildness of Surfactants" that there are no carcinogenicity and teratogenicity problems that may be caused by long-term use of detergents. Detergents are harmful to humans and the environment. Neither will cause harm.
What's more, the research and development of products such as dishwashing liquid is relatively mature, and the country will conduct random inspections on products on a regular basis . Heavy metals, estrogen-like substances, and fluorescent agents must not be detected in the samples. In recent years, the sampling pass rate of dishwashing liquid is still very high, close to 100%.
However, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate is ionized into dodecylbenzenesulfonate ions and sodium ions in water. The two ions make the oil stains fuse with each other, dissolve them in water, and then rinse them with clean water to wash them off thoroughly. But with the decontamination process, the oil on the skin of the hands will also be removed , so many people feel that their hands are dry after washing the dishes .
2. Are fruit and vegetable cleaners better than dish soap?
When choosing dishwashing liquid, we will see that the product is marked with class A and class B. What does this mean?
Class A of dishwashing liquid refers to detergents that can be used to clean food; Class B refers to detergents used to clean tableware, tools, equipment, containers and food packaging materials that come into contact with food.
Since class A is in direct contact with food, the requirements for class A products are higher than those of class B in terms of standards.
But from another point of view, detergent may not be able to remove pesticide residues. A study by the University of California in the United States analyzed 5 kinds of fruit and vegetable detergents commonly used in the market, and found that fruit and vegetable detergents can indeed remove some pesticide residues. But none of them can achieve 100% removal, and many fruit and vegetable detergents have not achieved the effect of commercial promotion, and the cleanliness is not much better than washing with water.
Therefore, it is also possible to wash with water. If you must use it, you can also choose Class A marked with food grade.
The use of pesticides in modern agricultural production is very common, and pesticide residues on fruits and vegetables are inevitable, but it does not mean that the presence of pesticides will definitely be harmful to health, so you don't need to be too entangled.
3. How many times does it take to clean the detergent residue?
A reporter from Wannan Morning Magazine once conducted an experiment on the residue of detergent. By randomly purchasing 3 different brands of detergent from the market, they sent them to a special testing agency to simulate the way of daily cleaning for residue detection.
It was found that the residues of the three detergents in the first pass were 0.12mg/cm², 0.15mg/cm², and 0.11mg/cm²; The prescribed safety standard (detergent residue should be less than 0.1mg/cm²). Rinse more than 5 times, the residue of the three detergents is 0.01mg/cm².
In other words, if you want to remove the possible risks of detergent residue, you can rinse the tableware twice.
There are also concerns about excessive formaldehyde in detergents. According to national regulations, detergents are expressly prohibited from adding formaldehyde. If formaldehyde is detected to exceed the standard, it is illegal to add.
Therefore, as long as it is a product produced by a regular manufacturer, this problem generally does not exist.
Four, two kinds of detergent, please stay away
When buying detergent, in addition to checking the active ingredients, these detergents are not suitable for long-term household use.
1, in bulk
Some people think that bulk dishwashing liquid is cheap and big cans, especially some small restaurants, like to buy these "three noes" bulk dishwashing liquid.
Regarding bulk dishwashing liquid and branded dishwashing liquid, Shenzhen Quality Consumption Research Institute once released an experiment, and found that bulk dish soap is not only unhygienic, not skin-friendly, but has weak decontamination ability, and some microbial indicators are higher than the standard 47 times, there are health risks.
2. Too fragrant dish soap
According to Director Wang Huiying of the Second Hospital of Zhejiang University, some patients once went into shock due to the smell of detergent. The patient belonged to the allergic constitution of "dizzy fragrance" . At that time, the fragrance of detergent was too strong, which caused allergy to the smell and led to allergic reaction.
In fact, no matter whether you are allergic or not, your olfactory nerve has a range of adaptation. If you are exposed to a high concentration of a certain fragrance, whether you are allergic or not, it may cause dizziness, headache and other discomfort. So too fragrant detergent is not suitable for use.
Do you use dish soap for daily cleaning? Do you have a new understanding of these misunderstandings about dish soap? All in all, cleaning supplies can be used with confidence as long as they are purchased from regular channels.
