Dishwashing liquid is harmful essence, will it cause cancer when used? How many times is the detergent residue safe to wash? Here comes the answer
Are you still using dish soap at home?
"It's safer to use baking soda instead of dish soap to wash dishes"
"Washing dishes with rice water or flour is healthier."
"Dishwashing liquid has residues and has a risk of cancer. After all, it is something that comes into contact with the mouth, so don't use it."
Is Dishwashing Liquid "Harmful"? Will it be harmful to health?
1. Will detergents cause cancer?
Every time she washes the dishes, Xiao Jiu always uses dish soap to wash away the oily stains. However, there have been many rumors about dishwashing liquid, and there are even saying that dishwashing liquid will leave chemical substances on the tableware, which can cause cancer...
In daily life, the detergents we use mainly include surfactants (such as sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, sodium fatty alcohol ether sulfate, etc.), flavors and pigments . The meaning of surfactants, which sound like "chemicals", seems to be worrying.
Surfactant is a general term for a large class of chemical substances, which can "fuse" the water and oil that are incompatible, so that the oil can be washed clean by water at once, which is also the principle of detergent decontamination.
In fact, a wide variety of surfactants are used to make dishwashing detergents, all of which have undergone rigorous safety verification.
As for surfactants, eating too much can be poisonous, so you can't get rid of the dose. Studies have shown that the amount of surfactants in detergents that caused the death of half of the experimental animals was mostly above 1 g/kg, and a few were above 5 g/kg.
According to China's "National Safety Standard for Detergents", surfactants are all non-toxic or low-toxic substances. For a 60 kg adult, it may take a whole bottle of dishwashing liquid to experience a toxic reaction.
Regarding the residual problem of active agents, it is also confirmed in "Safety and Mildness of Surfactants" that there are no problems such as carcinogenicity and teratogenicity that may be caused by long-term use of detergents, and detergents are harmful to humans and the environment. will not cause harm.
What's more, the research and development of products such as detergents has been relatively mature, and the state will also conduct random inspections on products on a regular basis , and heavy metals, estrogen-like substances, fluorescent agents, etc. shall not be detected in the samples. In recent years, the sampling pass rate of detergents is still very high, close to 100%.
However, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate is ionized into dodecylbenzenesulfonate ion and sodium ion in water, and the two ions make the oil stains fuse with each other, dissolve into water, and then rinse with clean water to wash off thoroughly. But with the decontamination process, the oil on the skin of the hands is also removed , so many people feel that their hands are dry after washing dishes .
2. Is the fruit and vegetable cleaning agent better than the detergent?
When choosing detergents, we will see that the products are marked with Class A and Class B. What does this mean?
Class A of dishwashing liquid refers to detergents that can be used to clean food; Class B refers to detergents used to clean tableware and tools, equipment, containers and food packaging materials that come into contact with food.
Since category A is in direct contact with food, the requirements for category A products are also higher than category B in terms of standards.
However, from another perspective, detergents may not be able to remove pesticide residues. A study by the University of California in the United States analyzed 5 kinds of fruit and vegetable detergents commonly used in the market and found that fruit and vegetable detergents can indeed remove some pesticide residues. But they can't be 100% removed, and many fruit and vegetable detergents have not achieved the effect of commercial promotion, and the cleanliness is not much better than washing with water.
Therefore, it is also possible to clean with water. If you must use it, you can choose the A-type label marked with food grade.
The use of pesticides in modern agricultural production is very common, and pesticide residues on fruits and vegetables are unavoidable, but it does not mean that the presence of pesticides will be harmful to health, so there is no need to worry too much.
3. The residue of detergent, how many times can it be cleaned?
A reporter from Wannan Morning Magazine once conducted an experiment on the residue of detergent. By randomly purchasing 3 different brands of detergent from the market, and then sending it to a special testing institution, the residue was tested after simulating the way of daily cleaning.
It was found that the residues of the three detergents in the first pass were 0.12mg/cm², 0.15mg/cm², and 0.11mg/cm²; when they were washed for the second time, the residues of the three kinds of detergents were all lower than the national level. The specified safety standard (the residual amount of detergent should be less than 0.1mg/cm²). After rinsing more than 5 times, the residue of the three detergents is 0.01mg/cm².
That is to say, if you want to remove the possible risks of detergent residues, it is enough to rinse the dishes twice.
There are also concerns that the presence of formaldehyde in detergents exceeds the standard. According to national regulations, it is expressly forbidden to add formaldehyde to detergents, and if it is detected that formaldehyde exceeds the standard, it is illegal to add.
Therefore, as long as it is a product produced by a regular manufacturer, this problem generally does not exist.
Fourth, two kinds of detergents, please avoid them
In addition to looking at the active ingredients when purchasing detergents, these detergents are not suitable for long-term household use.
1. Bulk class
Some people think that bulk detergents are cheap and large cans, especially some small restaurants, like to buy these "three-no" bulk detergents.
Regarding bulk detergent and brand detergent, Shenzhen Institute of Quality and Consumption released an experiment. The results found that bulk detergent is not only unhygienic, not skin-friendly, but also has weak decontamination ability, and some microbial indicators are higher than the standard 47. times, there are health risks.
2, too fragrant detergent
According to Wang Huiying, director of the Second Hospital of Zhejiang University, there have been patients who have been in shock because of the smell of detergent. The patient had a "smoky fragrance" allergic constitution , and the scent of the detergent was too strong, causing odor allergies and allergic reactions.
In fact, no matter whether you are allergic or not, the human olfactory nerve has an adaptation range. If you are exposed to a high concentration of a certain fragrance, whether you are allergic or not, it may cause dizziness, headache and other discomfort. So too fragrant detergent is not suitable for use.
Do you use dish soap for daily cleaning of dishes? Do you have a new understanding of these misunderstandings about detergent? All in all, cleaning products can be used with confidence as long as they are purchased through formal channels.
