Zhengzhou Depression: What should be done about adolescent depression?
Once depression is diagnosed, parents and families need to develop some cognitive and coping skills. There are four main approaches to treatment of adolescent depression in psychiatry and psychology.
- Psychoeducational treatment
This includes education about all aspects of depression and its medical strategies. If possible, it is best for the whole family to receive this education. All family members suffer from the emotional contagion of a person with depression. Therefore, discussions among family members to increase understanding of the disease can reduce tension in the family.
Knowing the early signs and symptoms of a depression relapse can help you and your family seek further treatment and help prevent rebound illness.
- Drug treatment
When a doctor prescribes a medicine, he should ask about its performance, function and effect. If the family understands how the medicine works, then make sure the medicine is not taken until it is prescribed by the doctor.
Pay attention to prevent brothers and sisters in the family from colluding with each other and resisting treatment for depression. They do it out of concern for a sibling suffering from depression, so don't like seeing them take their meds. This innocent kindness will encourage them to disobey treatment.
- Hospitalization
People with major depression tend to commit suicide or use drugs, and they put their own lives and the lives of others at risk. For such patients, especially those who cannot be treated at home, the best thing to do is to hospitalize them. However, it is best to have a full and in-depth discussion with the patient's physician before you make the decision to be hospitalized. When possible, it is best for adolescents to live with their peers while in the hospital. Often hospitals in big cities can meet this condition. Most parents are willing to do their best to do so.
- Talk therapy
Includes individual counseling and family therapy. Family therapy is a valuable adjunct in the form of heart-to-heart therapy in the treatment of adolescent depression. Family therapy focuses on family conflicts, especially trauma from drug use, divorce, family or personal problems experienced by teens, and more.
Family therapy can provide opportunities for the whole family to discuss how to address some of the symptoms of depression in the family, such as tension, confusion, and other emotions.
