After working as a doctor for 56 years, an oncologist suffered from stomach cancer. Before his death, he confessed: I didn't expect the operation to be so painful
"I'll give it to you, I can rest assured!" Hua Yiwei, the former director of the First Department of Surgery of the General Hospital of the Beijing Military Region, often heard patients say such things when he was alive. Every time he heard this, no matter how tired he was, he immediately felt that it was worth it.
Hua Yiwei, who was born in a medical family, also embarked on the path of medicine under the influence of his family. After graduating from Peking Union Medical College, he has been conscientiously engaged in general surgery clinical work.
With 56 years of medical practice, Hua Yiwei has won the respect and praise of countless colleagues and patients with her own efforts.
In the past few decades, Hua Yiwei has performed tens of thousands of operations, and each operation has been successfully completed without any mistakes. After retiring, he has not stopped, and is still fighting in the front line of clinical practice, performing hundreds of operations every year.
He also left a will, to donate his body after his death, and continue to contribute to the cause of medicine. In the last days of his life, he switched from being a doctor to being a patient.
Before his death, he admitted frankly, "I have done so many surgeries in the past, but I don't have a deep understanding of the pain of patients after surgery. I didn't expect the situation to be so serious, and I didn't expect patients to suffer so much ..."

1. The famous "Hua Yidao" is only for patients
Hua Yiwei has the title of "Hua Yidao". In his entire life, he regarded fame and fortune as dung, and he never took any benefit from patients. And always think for the sake of patients, try to save money for patients, never give patients "big prescriptions" .
In his eyes, a patient is a patient, and there is no distinction between high and low status. Whether it is an ordinary peasant or a senior cadre, Hua Yiwei treats them equally and never wears tinted glasses to see people.
The footage taken by the hospital for him once recorded:
He examines patients in winter, and is afraid that the patient will be cold, so he always rubs his hands and warms the stethoscope first;
Although he didn't need to do everything himself, but after each operation, he didn't rush to change out of the surgical gown, but sent the patient back to the ward with the nurse before leaving with confidence...
In medical technology, he is even better.
From ordinary surgeons, to department directors, to well-known experts, he has been sticking to the front line of clinical practice and has never slack off .
He has always believed that a doctor must not only have the spirit of saving lives, but also have a scientific mind. He said it and did it.
In the 1980s, Huayiwei carried out breast conserving surgery for early breast cancer in China, benefiting countless breast cancer patients. He has lived until he is old and learned to be old. In his 70s, he is also actively introducing new technologies to lead the further development of the department.
2. After suffering from cancer, I realized how painful it is to have surgery
Unfortunately, after fighting cancer for most of my life, I was also targeted by cancer.
In July 2005, Hua Yiwei was found to be suspected of gastric cancer, and was later diagnosed. Soon, he underwent a total gastrectomy and underwent intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy . He experienced great pain and gave him a profound reflection on the treatment of gastric cancer.
Under normal circumstances, in the face of gastric cancer patients, doctors will first consider removing the tumor to reduce the chance of recurrence, but they ignore the patient's feelings. Many patients have many side effects and their quality of life is greatly reduced.
Hua Yiwei said frankly that after he became a patient, he realized that even a little bit of stomach is better than Quanqie ! Especially for patients with advanced stage, total gastrectomy should not be done rashly, and a comprehensive and comprehensive evaluation should be carried out, otherwise the patient will be miserable.
The pain caused by intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy to Hua Yiwei cannot be expressed in words.
Every time he underwent intraperitoneal thermal chemotherapy, he had to lie still for nearly an hour and a half, and the abdominal cavity was heated to more than 40 degrees. After the chemotherapy, he was sweating profusely and almost collapsed .
After chemotherapy, the abdominal pain was unbearable, and I couldn't sleep all night. I had to take painkillers to barely relieve the pain. He basically has to do chemotherapy 8 times a month, and every time his body just recovers a little, then he starts to suffer again.
Because of the experience, I understand the pain of the patient better. Later, under the suggestion of Hua Yiwei, the hospital improved the surgical method: it is no longer a one-size-fits-all approach to gastric cancer patients, and those who can avoid total gastrectomy should be avoided as much as possible ; Patients suffer less and have a higher quality of life.
Finally, on August 12, 2006, Hua Yiwei died of illness. All walks of life and countless patients have expressed their respect and love for him through various channels and in different forms.
3. Cancer treatment cannot be "one size fits all"!
According to the latest statistics, in 2016, the number of new cancer cases in China was 4.064 million, and the number of deaths was 2.414 million. The severe situation shows that cancer has become a major disease that seriously threatens the lives and health of the Chinese people.
Tang Zhaoyou, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, also pointed out that " Cancer cannot be cured .
He said that in the face of cancer, it is necessary to "make up" rather than "attack", and blindly "attack" may be counterproductive. Cancer is a chronic disease, and only a lasting anti-cancer strategy can ultimately win .
So the idea that cancer equals terminal illness is outdated. Different cancers have different lethality, but they all have one thing in common: the earlier it is detected, the better the prognosis. Clinically, these 3 types of cancer have higher cure rates:
1. Early stage breast cancer
With the improvement of surgical plans and the combined application of drugs, the life cycle of breast cancer patients has been greatly extended. If early breast cancer is detected and treated early, the cure rate is basically above 90% .
2. Early and mid-stage colorectal cancer
At present, in addition to surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the treatment methods for colorectal cancer also incorporate methods such as immunization, endocrine, and traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, the cure rate of early colorectal cancer is over 80% , and the cure rate in the mid-term is also 60%-70%.
3. Lymphoma
Lymphoma is one of the most promising tumors to be cured, and the treatment is less painful. With the development of medical technology, the current 5-year survival rate of lymphoma patients has been above 50%, and the cure rate of early Hodgkin lymphoma is even higher. high, more than 80% .
This shows that early detection of cancer is very important. On the one hand, you should always pay attention to your own health status. Once you feel unwell, you should be vigilant and seek medical attention in time.
On the other hand, it is necessary to regularly check the body and conduct targeted screening through cancer screening methods to detect precancerous lesions or early cancers early. Cancer is not scary, the scary thing is that we don't know how to prevent it.
In a word, cancer prevention, the key is "early"!
