Will people live longer if they don't smoke or drink for a lifetime? Doctor reveals the truth
The vast majority of young people now have the habit of smoking and drinking, and these two items have also become indispensable participants in life and work.
However, there are many substances in cigarettes and alcohol that are harmful to health. In severe cases, it may cause cancer. For people who smoke and drink for a long time, it will lead to an increase in the incidence of chronic diseases.
We all know that long-term bad living and eating habits will reduce the resistance and immunity, and minor illnesses and disasters will surround you. In particular, smoking and drinking are not only harmful to health, but also addictive and difficult to quit.
For some elderly people, tobacco and alcohol have been with them for most of their lives, but as they get older, various body functions gradually decline, and chronic diseases will appear, such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
This may cause damage to the liver and cardiopulmonary function for a long time, cause adverse stimulation to the cardiovascular system, promote strong contraction and induce cardiovascular disease, and in severe cases may lead to myocardial infarction and cerebral infarction.
Many people have questioned about smoking and drinking. If a person does not smoke or drink for a lifetime, will they live longer and live longer? In response to this problem, Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine has done a special survey, let's find out together.
01
Will people live longer if they don't smoke or drink for a lifetime? Doctor reveals the truth
In 2013, the Zhejiang Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine conducted such a survey and randomly selected 255 centenarians in the province as a survey sample. In May of that year, the research report was released, and nearly 83% of centenarians had never had the habit of smoking. Among these 83%, 73% of the elderly neither smoked nor drank alcohol.
From this survey, it was found that if people do not touch tobacco and alcohol all their lives, they are indeed more likely to live longer.
02
Why do some old people live longer after smoking cigarettes all their lives?
However, there are also many elderly people in life who have smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol for a lifetime, and they can still live a long life. So when we persuade people not to smoke and drink, they will also use these examples to talk about things.
Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles and other institutions compared 90 long-term attraction people, whose average age is over 80 years old, and 730 long-term smokers, who lived less than 70 years old.
After comparison, it is found that people who smoke for a long time have a life expectancy of more than 80 years old, and their genes have 215 single nucleotide polypeptides, which means that their genes are different from ordinary people, that is, people who do not smoke.
And the researchers found that the result of this substance is that the cells in the people who smoked for a long time were repaired faster, and the ability of cell repair was stronger than the average person.
That is to say, for such people who smoke for a long time, this gene in the body can effectively accelerate the harm of cigarettes to the body. The same is smoking, the residual tobacco poison in their bodies may have fewer harmful substances that affect their health, and the harm to the body will naturally be smaller.
But one thing must be clear, that is, this probability is a small probability event. If you smoke for a long time, you cannot guarantee that you also have this gene in your body. Even if you have this gene, the longevity of your body is still related to many factors. Nor can it be generalized.
