If a person is diagnosed with advanced cancer and there is little hope of cure, some people may choose to quit their jobs and spend the last time of their lives; some people will insist on treatment and seek hope in the cracks.

Wang Lei is the vice president of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Unfortunately, he, who has devoted his life to "fighting" with colorectal cancer, was found to be the "king of cancer" in the advanced stage of pancreatic cancer , and the cancer cells had spread to the liver.

Faced with this result, he felt helpless but still faced it calmly, "If a person cannot accept what is about to happen, it will only make himself and the people around him very painful."

1. After 27 years of fighting cancer, I finally became a cancer patient

01. Born in a family of medicine, practiced medicine for more than 20 years

His name is Wang Lei, he is the vice president of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and he enjoys special allowances from the State Council. Wang Lei was born into a medical family, his father was a general surgeon.

Influenced by his father since childhood, Wang Lei also embarked on the path of medicine, and has been committed to the research related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer and radiation enteritis. He has been a doctor for 27 years . His original "Tianhe operation", that is, a new operation for extended left hemisection of rectal cancer, has also made great contributions to the medical field.

02. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the prime of life

As an oncologist, Wang Lei never thought that he would also be targeted by tumors. In 2017, 49-year-old Wang Lei's medical career flourished.

Work is busy day and night, and the body is also lit up with red lights. Wang Lei often feels lower back pain and often catches colds, and it is difficult to get better . Wang Lei thought he was just too tired and didn't take the abnormality to heart.

However, during the physical examination in 2018, Wang Lei was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer during the employee physical examination, and the cancer cells had spread to the liver. The moment he learned of his illness, Wang Lei felt a deep sense of powerlessness.

But he did not give up easily, he was determined to actively treat. After the operation, Wang Lei's spleen, 80% of the pancreas, most of the stomach, and the nerves that control the intestines were removed on a large scale . He was unable to eat on his own, and could only rely on nutritional needles to maintain his life, and his body became very weak.

03. He is a cancer patient and also a doctor

Despite this, he was concerned with the medical career. Soon after the operation, he dragged his sick body to the consulting room and scientific research conference room, practicing his ideals as a doctor.

"I may not be able to extend the length of my life, but I can control the thickness of it," he said.

Two months after surgery, he attended the 53rd American Congress of Clinical Oncology in Chicago. The day before, he was still in the rescue, and the next day he appeared at the preliminary review meeting of the Guangdong Science and Technology Award.

Not only a cancer patient, but also a doctor who saves lives and saves the wounded . Every Wednesday afternoon at medical seminars, he showed up on time, sometimes on a drip.

2. Reflection: If I was slower, the result might be different

After fighting pancreatic cancer for more than a year, Wang Lei passed away on June 23, 2019, at the age of 50. Before he died, Wang Lei said to his wife, "If I slowed down a bit, it might not be the ending today."

For more than ten years, Wang Lei's family has been crowded into a small house of more than ten square meters in the hospital. Later, they bought a new house. In order to facilitate the hospital, Wang Lei was unwilling to move. Even during the treatment, Wang Lei did not forget to work and overdrawn his body again and again.

Peng Guoqiu, director of the Psychosomatic Medicine Clinic of the Fourth Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital, once said that there are only five steps from fatigue to cancer :

first step

When the work pressure continues to increase, the amount of oxygen inhaled will decrease, resulting in a drop in the oxygen concentration in the blood and blood sugar, which will cause fatigue.

second step

Feeling heavy, unable to lift up. The body is further overdrawn, and there will also be insufficient oxygen in the muscles or internal organs.

third step

Exhausted, mood swings, prone to anxiety, mania, and depression.

the fourth step

Physical discomfort, such as back pain, constipation, gastritis, mouth ulcers, etc.

the fifth step

Small problems keep coming, and serious illnesses come to you, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and even cancer.

If the fatigue persists for 3-6 months and does not relieve, and symptoms such as low-grade fever, hair loss, insomnia, anorexia, weight gain or loss, and gastrointestinal discomfort appear , it may be chronic fatigue syndrome.

The occurrence of chronic fatigue syndrome indicates that there is a gap in the immune system, and it is easy to be targeted by diseases, and the risk of depression, cancer and other diseases will also increase accordingly . So, in any case, we should not overdraft our health.

3. "Cancer King" Pancreatic Cancer, Don't Ignore Abnormalities

Pancreatic cancer is known as the "king of cancer". Jin Gang, director of the Department of Pancreatic Hepatobiliary Surgery, Changhai Hospital Affiliated to Naval Medical University, pointed out that the survival rate of pancreatic cancer is very low. The 5-year survival rate of radical resection is about 20%, and the 10-year survival rate period below 5% .

Due to the special location of the pancreas, when lesions occur, there are almost no obvious symptoms , and it is difficult to find them through routine physical examinations. So in the advanced stage, the prognosis of pancreatic cancer is very poor. In addition, the treatment difficulty is relatively high, and it is easy to recur, which eventually leads to the "notoriety" of pancreatic cancer.

Moreover, pancreatic cancer is good at disguising as a stomach disease. If these symptoms occur frequently, you should be vigilant, especially in high-risk groups:

1. Abdominal pain

Abdominal pain is one of the typical symptoms of pancreatic cancer, mainly in the left upper quadrant and right upper quadrant.

2. Digestive tract discomfort

Manifested as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and even hematemesis.

3. Jaundice

Jaundice is also one of the main symptoms of pancreatic cancer, manifested as yellow eyes, yellow skin and so on.

4. Diabetes

Some pancreatic cancer patients will show symptoms of diabetes in the early stage, such as weight loss and weight loss, which are easy to be ignored. Some patients also developed pancreatic cancer on the basis of diabetes.

Life is not easy, and for modern people, stress has become the norm. However, our bodies can’t take it if they are chronically stressed and stressed.

Therefore, you must cherish your body, combine work and rest, and develop a reasonable lifestyle in order to have health and stay away from disease.
