Long-term shoulder pain, the treatment is not good, what is the problem? Not necessarily frozen shoulder! The doctor gives you the answer
When it comes to "shoulder pain", what problem comes to your mind?
I believe that most of my friends will feel that shoulder pain is related to a disease called "periarthritis of the shoulder". In the past, in Dr. Jin's articles, some people often reported that they "had frozen shoulder", and the symptoms of shoulder pain did not improve for a year or two. Seriously, even raising his arms and wearing clothes has become a problem.
But shoulder pain is really not that simple. Indiscriminately pressing the frozen shoulder to treat not only does not cure it, but also aggravates the problem of shoulder pain.
There are two common causes of shoulder pain: frozen shoulder and rotator cuff injury.
First of all, let's understand what the lower shoulder periarthritis is.
Frozen shoulder is also known as "frozen shoulder" and "fifty shoulder". From the name, it is known that this disease mainly occurs around the age of 50. In fact, people under the age of 40 do rarely get frozen shoulder.
The reason why frozen shoulder is also called frozen shoulder is because the patient not only has symptoms of shoulder pain, but also has the problem of limited shoulder movement - such as combing hair, putting on clothes, etc., it is difficult to raise the arm. Done, as if the shoulders were "frozen".
In general, the main features of frozen shoulder are:
Generally occurs in elderly people, young people rarely get frozen shoulder;
Shoulder pain occurs after the weather changes or the shoulder and body catch a cold, and the pain is more obvious at night than during the day;
In patients with frozen shoulder, when the shoulder movement is limited, it is difficult to lift the shoulder on his own (limited active movement), and it is difficult for others to help him lift the shoulder (limited passive movement).
In addition to frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injuries are also a common cause of shoulder pain.
When affected by the repeated friction and impact of the bones around the shoulder joint, aging, trauma and other factors, the rotator cuff will be damaged, and then shoulder pain and limited shoulder movement will also follow. (such as playing basketball, badminton, football, etc.)
Rotator cuff injuries are characterized by:
- more common in young people
*accompanied by shoulder pain
*Patients with rotator cuff injury only have limited active movement, and his shoulder can be lifted by others (passive movement is not limited). This is also one of the main features that distinguish it from frozen shoulder.
The following picture shows the position of the rotator cuff:
In addition to the above reasons, the following conditions can also cause shoulder pain:
- Heart attack. There were news reports of a man who suddenly fell to the ground and died suddenly after a week of pain in his left shoulder. After examination, the man's shoulder pain may be related to myocardial infarction.
If you or a family member has a history of heart disease and has shoulder pain accompanied by symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, and sweating, you must be alert to the risk of myocardial infarction and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
- Cervical spondylosis. There are abundant nerves near the cervical spine, and pain from cervical spondylosis may be transmitted to the shoulders through these nerves. Clinically, some patients' shoulder pain disappeared because of the improvement of cervical spondylosis.
In addition, problems such as gallstones and cholecystitis may also cause shoulder pain, which will not be discussed here.
Dr. Jin mentioned so many reasons for shoulder pain above. In fact, I hope all friends understand that shoulder pain is only a symptom, and there are many reasons for it.
One of the important reasons why many patients and friends have long-term shoulder pain and repeated treatment is not good is that once they have shoulder pain, they treat it as frozen shoulder.
If the shoulder pain lasts for a long time, it is better to go to the hospital to take an ordinary X-ray to check what is the cause, and then do further treatment.
Finally, I would like to remind all patients and friends that if your shoulder pain has the following characteristics, you must go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible:
First: find that the daily activities of the arm have been severely restricted, such as being unable to lift things, lift the hands up, etc.
Second: Shoulder pain that persists for a few days.
Third: Swelling/bruising in the shoulder joint or arm.
Fourth: Shoulder pain accompanied by fever, local skin fever and other manifestations, be alert to infection.
