Challenging Obsessive Anxiety Trilogy
I want you to know how compulsive thoughts and behaviors arise and teach you how to deal with the anxiety and fears that compulsions cause. You need to do it yourself, a psychiatrist can't help you! The three steps to be highlighted here are as follows:
Step 1: Confirm again
The first and most important step is to learn to "recognize" the thoughts and actions of OCD. Maybe you don't want to do this step at all, but you have to work hard, and be fully aware, to know that the trouble at the moment is coming from a compulsive thought or behavior.
Step 2: Reattribution
Saying to yourself, "It's not me, it's OCD!" Obsessive thoughts don't make sense, they're misinformation from the brain. You have to understand why the rush to check or "why are my hands dirty" is so overwhelming and overwhelming.
If you know these thoughts are irrational, then why are you reacting to them? Knowing why obsessive thoughts are so strong and why they can't get rid of them is an important key to strengthening willpower and increasing resistance to obsessive behaviors.
"Re-confirmation-re-recognition" and "re-attribution" are often done together, allowing patients to have a deeper understanding of the etiology of OCD. First I fully realized that the compulsion was forcing me, and then I realized that it was a pathological condition of my brain.
Step 3: Divert attention.
In- at this step it really works! The beginning of psychological construction is: no effort, no gain! To distract is to take your attention away from the obsessive-compulsive symptoms, even for a few minutes. Start by choosing some specific behaviors to replace compulsive hand washing or checking.
Any interesting and constructive action will do. It is best to engage in your hobbies, such as walking, exercising, listening to music, reading, playing on the computer and playing basketball.
When there is an obsession, you "confirm" it's an obsession or urge, then "re-attribute" it to your illness-compulsion, and then "shift" to do something else.
