Does running make your calves thicker? This is actually a question that many of my friends have struggled with.

When many people walk into the gym, or put on running shoes and start running, the original intention is to get in better shape. Of course, in the minds of Chinese people, the concept of thinness as beauty has not been changed too much, so the original intention of many people to train is to become thin.

And as long as you talk about losing weight, you have to mention a lot of weight loss inspirational people. Their inspirational stories are all about transforming their bodies through months of running. Therefore, many people want to run whenever they mention losing weight.

After they bought running shoes, prepared equipment, and ran for 2 kilometers, they found that their calves were thicker than before. I believe that watching their swollen calves at that moment was as scary as watching a horror movie.

I originally wanted to run to thin my calf, but it turned out to be thicker than before, so many of my friends panicked instantly, wondering if running could no longer continue?

Does running make your calves thicker? What's the matter with the thick legs caused by running?

In this issue, let's talk about running and thick legs.

Conclusion: Running regularly will not cause you to grow very thick legs.

We can take the example of a more extreme marathon runner, who has to train at a high intensity every day. Their profession is running, and they run every day except on days off. But we can find that the marathon runners are not particularly thick, and looking at their calves, they do not have obvious muscle legs, but they are all lean bodies.

Of course, since most of the people who are worried about thick legs are girls, let's also explain why the legs feel thicker than before after running?

In fact, the answer is very simple, because the thick legs after running are caused by muscle congestion. This is the same as when we practice push-ups, parallel bars and arms flexion and extension during strength training, we can see that our chest muscles and triceps are obviously enlarged and thickened, but in fact, after the congestion fades, their The latitude is restored to its original state.

Because neither fat loss nor muscle growth will be completed in a short time, but in a slow accumulation process.

In fact, running not only does not make the legs thicker, but also gradually thins the legs.

Because regular exercise can help us increase calorie consumption and increase the decomposition of fat. When the fat in our body is reduced, not only the legs, but also the whole body will gradually lose weight. At the same time, our heart and lung function will be stronger than before, and our mental state will also be better than before, which is why many people insist on running.

If you still don't believe me, let's take another example from our side. I observed a lot of fitness men in the gym. Some of them have very developed upper bodies, but very few legs. It’s not that they don’t practice legs.

Many of them squat with a scary weight, but the calf never develops (maybe because they don't do special calf training). Therefore, there is also an obvious incongruity that can be found visually, that is, their arms are almost over the latitude of their calves.

Although the efficiency of gaining muscle or losing fat is related to genes, diet and the environment you are in, in general, the calf is also a relatively slow-growing type.

Especially women, the natural hormone secretion is different from that of men, which can also lead to slow muscle building effect. Therefore, in general, the possibility of thickening of the calf is really minimal.

So why do your legs still look thick? And sometimes it seems to be hard to the touch, isn't it muscle? Aren't all fats soft?

In fact, it is not all muscles that are solid, but may also be caused by too tight fascia. After some people run or often wear high heels, the fascia of the calf will be tense, so the calf feels hard to the touch. If you use a fascia ball or foam roller to roll your calf at this time, I believe you can enjoy an unprecedented tingling sensation, but after rolling, you will find that the calf flesh becomes loose.

Therefore, please don't believe that you have a high body fat rate, but you have a lot of calf muscles. For women, it is a very good state to control the body fat rate at 20%~25%, but if your body fat rate exceeds 30%, then it is necessary to lose weight for the sake of shape and health.

After your run, be sure to stretch.

Stretching is not about lengthening the muscles, but about keeping them stretchable and elastic, which can reduce the risk of injury during exercise.

Therefore, if you only exercise for a long time without stretching, your muscles will become more and more tense and stiff, and you will be easily injured in future training.

At the same time, stretching the target muscle group after exercising can make the muscles more comfortable, because then you will not feel bloated all the time.

So, if you love running and want to go for a run, run as much as you want. Running will not make your legs thicker, it will only make your body firmer, more stylish, and healthier. But when running, be sure to do a good job of warming up before exercise and stretching after exercise.
