A study of 510,000 people: Chinese people drink milk or increase the risk of liver cancer and breast cancer. Can milk still be drunk?

"Can you still drink milk well? Yesterday I saw an article saying that Chinese people often drink milk and are prone to liver cancer and breast cancer. It's true!"

Xiao Liu usually likes to drink milk. Milk is rich in nutrients and can also supplement calcium. Basically, he insists on drinking a glass of pure milk every day, and he feels that his body is much better.

But after reading the article about "milk causes cancer" on the Internet, Xiao Liu panicked a little. He usually drank so much milk, so he wouldn't have a tumor in his body long ago.

In the past, there have been many claims about "milk causes cancer", and there are similar studies, but none of them have confirmed that milk causes cancer.

Recently, a large-scale study found that drinking milk regularly may increase the risk of cancer in Chinese, especially liver cancer and breast cancer . What is going on? Can I still drink milk?

1. A study of 510,000 people found that drinking milk regularly may increase the risk of cancer

A recent study on dairy products and cancer in the China Chronic Diseases Prospective Study (CKB Study) showed that higher intake of dairy products was associated with a higher risk of overall cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer and lymphoma in women , with each increase in 50 g/day, the risk increased by 7%, 12%, 17% and 19%, respectively.

The study used China's Kadoorie Biobank to collect data on about 510,000 Chinese adults. The study involved 10 different regions of the country. During an average follow-up period of 10.8 years, there were a total of 29,277 cancer cases between the ages of 35 and 79.

After adjusting for a range of confounding factors, the researchers found that dairy intake was significantly and positively associated with cancer risk .

For the relationship between milk and cancer, the author has 4 guesses:

One is plasma insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), which plays a key role in cell proliferation and cancer development;

Second, milk contains high levels of lactose, branched-chain amino acids, and IGF-I, which can activate the development of cancer factors;

Third, saturated fatty acids (SFA) and trans fatty acids in dairy products may increase insulin resistance and pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and induce liver cancer;

Fourth, the estrogen and progesterone contained in milk may induce breast cancer.

So, can you still drink milk?

In fact, this paper alone cannot draw definite conclusions, and the author himself stated that the research has certain limitations. This research is an observational study rather than a randomized controlled trial , so the conclusion does not prove the relationship between dairy products and cancer. Causal relationship.

The protein, vitamins and other nutrients contained in dairy products play an important role in human health. It is not an obvious choice to limit dairy products just because of the current results.

Second, milk contains a lot of hormones, will induce precocious puberty?

Milk has always been known as "white blood", and even the National Health and Health Commission proposed that the diet of COVID-19 pneumonia should be supplemented with milk to strengthen immunity.

Milk is rich in high-quality protein and mineral calcium, with high absorption rate and high utilization value; moderate intake can not only provide basic energy for the body, but also increase bone density and improve body immunity.

Is it true or false that the milk contains hormones, and drinking too much is prone to precocious puberty and cancer? Fake.

The hormone substance contained in milk, that is, IGF-1, is also called "growth promoting factor" and "growth hormone mediator", which belongs to polypeptide proteins. IGF-1 loses its activity after entering the digestive tract , and there is no direct evidence that it is carcinogenic.

3. Drinking milk at night is equivalent to "chronic poison"?

Some people choose to drink milk in the morning, thinking that it can promote the absorption of calcium; there are many people who drink milk at night, thinking that it can help sleep. But there is a saying that "drinking milk at night is equivalent to taking poison", drinking milk before going to bed for a long time is easy to get kidney stones... Is it true?

Xu Yan, chief physician of the Department of Urology, Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said that the occurrence of kidney stones is related to a variety of factors, such as abnormal metabolism in the body, urinary tract infections, drug effects, etc. If it is only attributed to diet, it is too one-sided.

Milk contains calcium, does not mean that eating calcium will turn into stones . Compared with calcium ions in milk, oxalate ions are an important cause of stone formation.

Is there an optimal "prime time" for that milk?

In fact, you can drink it in the morning and at night. However, be careful not to go to bed after drinking at night. Too much food in the stomach before going to bed will increase the digestive burden, and may also lead to many nights.

If there is a golden time to drink milk, it is 30 minutes before meals.

Studies have found that drinking milk 30 minutes before meals before eating can effectively reduce the blood sugar response after meals, and drinking before meals can make you feel fuller after meals, which is very helpful for preventing obesity.

Milk is good, but pay attention to how much you drink. According to the dietary guidelines, the general population can drink 300g per day .

For lactose intolerance, moderate or severe acne patients, protein allergy patients, abdominal surgery patients, etc., it is not recommended to drink milk, otherwise it may cause discomfort or aggravate the condition.

Could dairy intake also adversely affect cancer?

This is still an issue that needs to be comprehensively and comprehensively considered. For now, moderate intake of dairy products still has a positive effect on the human body, so everyone can eat it with peace of mind.
