Topical medicines: 15 grams of Shenjincao, Tonggucao, hematoxylin, rhubarb, 12 grams of turmeric, 10 grams of frankincense and myrrh. Decoction with water, one dose per day, twice a day; if decocted with rice wine, one dose every two days.

If you feel numb, you can add 10 grams of safflower and 15 grams of angelica to promote blood circulation and clear collaterals; for those with obvious pain, add 9 grams of Xuanhu, 12 grams of Achyranthes, 6 grams of black medicine, and 10 grams of Citrus aurantium to relieve pain.

External medicine: 6 grams each of Chuanwu and Caowu, 15 grams each of Chuanxiong, Weilingxian and Qingpi, 20 grams each of Tougucao and Wujiapi, 10 grams of safflower and 12 grams of Qianghuo. Grind the medicine into fine powder, mix it into a paste with an appropriate amount of rice wine and steam it, and apply it externally to the affected area when the temperature is moderate.

Ankle sprains are mostly caused by accidents.
