Statistics from the International Diabetes Federation in 2021 show that the incidence of diabetes in China continues to grow. Among adults aged 20-79 in China, the number of diabetics has reached 140.9 million .

  What kind of concept is this? According to the population of our country, one out of every 10 adults suffers from diabetes, and most of them are type 2 diabetes patients.

  Because diabetes is a long-term and lifelong disease, patients need long-term treatment, and treatment is divided into three parts, that is, medication, diet and exercise.

  The reason why patients need to restrict their diet is because the energy and calories needed by the human body come from the supply of food. If diabetic patients eat excessive calories, it will cause postprandial blood sugar to rise, which is not good for disease control.

  Not only that, once the blood sugar of diabetic patients is out of control, various complications will follow, including eye damage, kidney disease, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, diabetic foot and so on .

  It is precisely because diabetics need to restrict their diets that many businesses have seen business opportunities and launched so-called sugar-free foods. They claim that these foods can be safely eaten by diabetics and will not cause blood sugar to rise.

  So the question is, can diabetes really eat sugar-free food, and what misunderstandings are patients prone to fall into?

1. Eat sugar-free food

  First of all, the sugar-free foods on the market are divided into two categories, the first is the type with very little sugar, and the second is the sugar substitute.

  The so-called sugar substitute refers to a sweet taste, but the ingredients list does not see white sugar, brown sugar or sucrose, and the energy is also 0. To put it bluntly, its essence is a sweetener , which is not a substance that relies on insulin for metabolism. , so it has no effect on blood sugar.

  However, this does not mean that everyone can eat sugar-free food recklessly, because sugar-free food may also contain flour and starch, especially various sugar-free cakes. Once the intake exceeds the standard, the blood sugar after meals will also rise;

  2. Don’t eat sweets

  In many people's opinion, the reason for developing diabetes is because of eating too much sweets. But in fact, there are many causes of diabetes, and there is no direct relationship between eating sweets, and diabetes is not just restricting the intake of sweets.

  In terms of diet alone, whether it is high-fat food, high-calorie food, carbohydrate food, it will cause abnormal fluctuations in blood sugar. Therefore, what diabetic patients should pay attention to is not the sweetness itself, but the glycemic index of the food;

****##   3. Be completely vegetarian

  Some people who understand the diabetic diet believe that meat and high-fat foods can cause blood sugar to spike. In order to stabilize blood sugar after meals, we simply chose vegetarianism and excessive hunger strikes.

  As everyone knows, this will not only cause malnutrition , but also the risk of fatty liver disease, and patients may also suffer from sudden hypoglycemia. From a clinical point of view, sudden hypoglycemia in diabetes is far more terrifying than hyperglycemia itself.

  Therefore, what the patient has to do is not to be a complete vegetarian or excessive diet, but to reasonably mix protein, vegetables, coarse and fine grains, etc. on the basis that the total calorie intake of the three meals does not exceed the standard.

  Finally, it should be emphasized that diabetes requires strict diet control, which is not wrong in itself. However, it is unrealistic to delusionally reduce blood sugar and stabilize the condition through diet.

  Diabetes treatment, the most indispensable point is to strictly follow the doctor's recommendations to use drugs, and to test blood sugar regularly, so as to have a comprehensive understanding of blood sugar control.****
