Sampling of edible oil, carcinogens exceeded 20 times! Reminder: 3 kinds of oil may have cancer risk, eat less

Recently, the Jining Municipal Market Supervision Bureau of Shandong Province issued a notice on the unqualified situation of 14 batches of food (No. 1 of 2022).

Among them, there are 2 types of peanut oil, which were detected as aflatoxin B₁ items that did not meet the national food safety standards . They were produced and sold by Wenshang County Ganggang Fragrance Oil Workshop and Wenshang County Liuzongyu Soybean Oil Processing Workshop. They were ordered by the regulatory authorities to recall and release shelf of goods.

Edible oil is very important to our daily life, and now it has been exposed to negative news, causing public concern, but in fact, it is not the first time that similar incidents have occurred.

1. Carcinogens exceed the standard by 20 times. How harmful is it to eat them?

When the Nanning Market Supervision Bureau of Guangxi randomly inspected 668 batches of samples, it was found that 2 batches of edible oil were detected with acid value (KOH) and benzopyrene exceeding the standard, and one batch of "camellia oil" was found to be more than 20 times higher than the standard carcinogen. .

When it comes to carcinogen benzopyrene, the health risks caused by it are still very large. Animal experiments have shown that long-term inhalation or consumption of foods high in benzopyrene can increase the risk of lung cancer, liver cancer, intestinal and gastric cancers and other cancers . In addition, unqualified edible oil may bring the following 2 risks:

1. Aflatoxin B1

Peanuts may be contaminated by aflatoxins during planting, harvesting, transportation and storage. At this time, in the process of oil extraction, if there is no strict selection or relevant testing , it is easy to bring toxins directly from raw materials to finished products.

Once this carcinogen enters the human body, the liver bears the brunt of the threat, which can lead to hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and even liver cancer .

2. Peroxide value

In the process of storage and transportation, if the peanut oil is not properly sealed and exposed to the air and light, it is easy to oxidize, resulting in an increase in the peroxide value.

If you eat this peanut oil, it can damage the cell membrane structure and increase the risk of diseases such as arteriosclerosis, myocardial infarction, gastric cancer, and liver cancer .

Therefore, for the sake of safety, it is recommended that you buy qualified edible oil products from formal channels to avoid adverse effects on health.

2. Opened with oil, how long can it be eaten?

Regarding cooking oil, for cost-effective reasons, many families will buy large barrels of cooking oil as reserves, and basically they will use up a can of oil before replacing with new oil. However, if the cooking oil is stored for a long time, it may also hurt the body if it is eaten into the stomach.

For example, a 52-year-old woman in Xinjiang vomited wildly after eating long-standing cooking oil, and eventually lost her life due to untimely treatment. This is not an isolated case. In a small village in Daye, Hebei Province, 37 people were collectively food poisoned by consuming long-standing cooking oil .

So why can't the edible oil be eaten after a long time? There are three main reasons:

First, long-term storage of edible oil, especially in a humid environment, can increase the moisture content in it, which is easy to breed microorganisms;

Second, opening the package for too long will also increase the risk of oil infection with mold , resulting in aflatoxin;

Third, if the sealing treatment is not done well, the grease will come into contact with the oxygen in the air, and an oxidation reaction will also occur, resulting in some oxidation products.

Eating edible oils containing excessive microorganisms, aflatoxins and partial oxidation products is prone to toxic reactions such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and even life-threatening in severe cases . Therefore, I advise everyone to try not to eat cooking oil that has been left for too long.

How long can edible oil be kept after opening? Different cooking oil, the specific time is also slightly different.

Generally speaking, under normal living environment, edible oil without antioxidants may deteriorate after 2 months after opening , while those with additives can be stored for a little longer, but try not to exceed 3 months.

There are many types of oils, which make it difficult for many people to choose which one is better. In fact, as long as the oil is of qualified quality, it can be eaten with peace of mind, but note that these kinds of oils are really not recommended to eat. .

1. Oil that has been heated repeatedly

CCTV Technology has reported an experiment showing that no matter what kind of oil is used, carcinogens will increase, especially peanut oil.

After repeated use three times, its content of malondialdehyde (carcinogen) increased by 11.4 times , this carcinogen can damage the biofilm of our cells, thereby increasing the risk of cancer.

2. Palm Oil

A mouse experimental study published in the world-renowned medical journal "Nature" shows that adding palm oil to the diet of mice can promote the metastasis of oral cancer and melanoma in mice , and "the real culprit" is among them Contains a fatty acid - palmitic acid.

3. Soil pressing

Many people think that this kind of edible oil refined by traditional local methods is more fragrant and healthier.

In fact, this kind of edible oil often has backward equipment and technology, and many impurities have not been removed by refining, and it is likely to contain toxic heavy metals such as arsenic and mercury . Eating this kind of oil is very harmful to health, and may also contain Aflatoxin, a carcinogen, may induce liver cancer.

Which oil is the healthiest?

According to the recommendations given in the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents (2016)": the amount of cooking oil is 25-30g/day. According to the structure, fats can be roughly divided into saturated fatty acids (recommended intake is <10% of total energy, which can be obtained from daily diet), monounsaturated fatty acids (mostly from vegetable oils), and polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Therefore, 25-30g of cooking oil should be vegetable oil based on the recommended intake of dietary guidelines .

But compared to eating oil, healthy oil is also very important. When using edible oil, pay attention to these two points:

  • Diversified oil

The most correct way to eat oil is to eat a variety of oils in rotation. Although vegetable oil is good, do not eat only one oil for a long time , otherwise it may cause the body to lack certain types of fatty acids.

  • Different cooking methods use different oils

Different cooking methods are suitable for different oils, so learn to choose. For example, for daily cooking, you can choose peanut oil, olive oil, and rapeseed oil; for cold dishes, you can choose virgin olive oil; for stir-frying and frying, you can choose high-temperature-resistant oils such as coconut oil and butter.

Summary: Edible oil is an indispensable part of daily diet, and how to eat edible oil is also very particular. If it is used incorrectly, it may endanger health, so everyone must master the correct consumption method. After all, it is something that you eat every day. More desserts are right. Are you using the right cooking oil?
